Create a Ground-Shaking Sub-Bass
Last Edited: Dec 1, 2023
Music producers and software companies always find new ways to amaze us with creative bass-making solutions. Check out the following tutorial and learn how to create a ground-shaking sub-bass easily.
Bass Engine CM
Bass Engine CM is essentially a ROMpler that offers 45 different authentic 'sampled' basses. Moreover, some of them are Hip Hop-style patches from analog synthesizers. Its carefully sampled sounds introduce a top-notch range of classic hip-hop bass tones, categorized into three decades in the genre's history: the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s.
Therefore, all of the content of the Bass Engine CM sounds like it's taken straight from the vinyl record or some old drum machine. However, the range has been crafted with high quality and precision by DopVST labs. In addition, Bass Engine CM comes with 50 awesome-sounding MIDI files, which are riffs of classic hip-hop baseline licks. So, let us start as usual by adding a fresh instance of the Bass Engine on a newly created MIDI track within SoundBridge.
The Interface
First, you can see that the interface couldn't be more simplified. If we neglect the top rack, where you can see the name of this fine VST, the lower two frames contain a VU meter, Volume, Pan, Reverb, and Pitch knobs which are accompanied by an ADSR section on the far right side. Below that, there is a 3-octave range keyboard and, last but not least, a preset section. As you can see from the picture below, the list (part of it) of presets is pretty big, and the presets range from the 1990s to the 2010s. This instrument has many awesome-sounding sounds that you'll find helpful if you are into sub, fat, and ground-shaking bass sounds.
Audio Examples
So, after we finish the initial introduction, let's move to the practical audio examples. In conclusion, I will present three different bassline presets with different sequences—first solo and then accompanied by the drum loop from SoundBridge's RitMix drum machine.
